Recognize Guyana’s resource abundance in all its shapes and forms, from its pristine forests to its petroleum resources; its mixed-economy orientation; its ethnic diversity and fractionalization; its political realities; its natural ties to South America and its cultural and historical ties to the Caribbean, and so forth.
Be independent and operate only with the values embraced by the University of Guyana.
Embrace inclusiveness, diversity, innovation and evidence-based solutions in its programmes and functions.
To mobilize and coordinate the resources, including the current faculty and programmes of the University of Guyana and Guyanese in the Diaspora, to contribute to the mission of the University of Guyana GREEN Institute.
To provide a destination for researchers on assistantship, associateship, post-doc and other fellowships and visiting academics and international study abroad programmes in order to bring in a range of resources including funding via foundations and other entities.
To facilitate pertinent volunteers and students on attachments.
To develop novel and rigorous programmes of executive training, research and policy analysis and development around the three pillars of the Green Economy.
To ensure that the output of the Institute is integrated into policy, business practices and more generally, social awareness.
UGGI is administratively within the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Guyana. The Institute collaborates with Departments across all Faculties/Schools/Centres and other units that currently exist to achieve its Mission and Vision. It will not duplicate what is done in other departments of the University of Guyana or in other agencies in Guyana, but will attempt to bring fresh knowledge insights and innovative methodologies and processes to bear on existing programmes and initiatives.
Promote and inform sustainable development locally and ultimately globally.
Work with collaborators, leaders, and civil society to test and implement our ideas and in real time and context.
Develop a repository and publish Green Economy research and best practice standards.
Use evidence-based results to inform decisions and policy which will promote sustainable development and an inclusive Green Economy.
The use of evidence-based methods of inquiry will be embraced wherever possible. This will include impact evaluations, natural and laboratory experiments.
